Book signing with Kenji Takenaka and April Vollmer @Honolulu Museum of Art

Currently on view at the Honolulu Museum of Art the exhibition  Enduring Impressions: Contemporary Woodblock Prints features works by printmakers Kenji Takenaka and April Vollmer, who bring the techniques of traditional Japanese woodblock printing (mokuhanga) into contemporary practice.

On September 14, 2025, both artists will be in the museum shop for a special book signing. Takenaka will sign his book Woodblock Printing, Traditional Techniques and its Designs, while Vollmer will sign her book Woodblock Print Workshop.

Kenji Takenaka is a fifth-generation master woodblock printer of a workshop founded in Kyoto in 1891. His works are included in the collections of the Honolulu Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the National Library of France.

Based in New York, April Vollmer is an artist, author, and educator. Specializing in mokuhanga, she has exhibited internationally and has taught workshops across the United States.
