Kenji Takenaka crafted the red gradient for Music Awards Japan

The Music Awards Japan (MAJ) is one of the largest international music awards in Japan, organized by the Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association (CEIPA), a general incorporated association jointly established by five major music industry organizations in 2024. Modeled after the Grammy Awards, the most prestigious awards in the music industry, CEIPAJ is also known as the Japanese version of the Grammy Awards.

They say "The red gradient employs the traditional Ukiyo-e shading technique called 'Fukibokashi.' It was crafted by Kenji Takenaka, the fifth-generation artisan of Takenaka Mokuhan in Kyoto.

The logo symbolizes igniting the future of music worldwide, featuring the letter 'M' from 'MUSIC' represented through a musical staff."

Someday in the near future the red gradient will be called "The Kenji's Red".

The first award ceremony will be held at the Rohm Theater Kyoto on May 21 and 22, 2025. The ceremony will be broadcast live on NHK (May 22 only) and streamed worldwide (excluding some regions) on YouTube Global Streaming Partners.
