Inspired by Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa, this woodblock print deconstructs and reconstructs the imagery of ukiyo-e into layered fragments. In an attempt to overcome fear of the unknown, people seek to understand the world by breaking it down into knowledge and categories. Yet the more deeply we analyze, the more the original meaning and contours begin to blur. Through countless overlapping waves, this work explores the boundary between perception and dissolution.
