Kyoto ukiyo-e paintings drawn by Edo period painter Hiroshige Utagawa's work in original color version created by woodblock print artist Kenji Takenaka. Traditional ukiyo-e colors and tones are arranged in a graphic color scheme to create a modern style finish.
Yasaka Shrine in Gion is painted in this work, and the shrine is still visited by many people throughout the year today. Composition of the painting draws attention to the women walking along the Omotesando path of the shrine in the falling snow in the background. A special series of works where classic and modern sense of art intersect.

Famous Views of Kyoto Series

Hiroshige Utagawa who presented the Famous Views of Kyoto series which depicts 10 notable places of kyoto around the same time period he presented his infamous signature work “The 53 stations of the Tokaido” to the world.
Out of 10 pieces there 3 pieces “Gion Shrine in Snow”, “Yodo River” and “Arashi yama Manka” are highly praised and recognized.

Ukiyo-e artist Hiroshige Utagawa

An Ukiyo-e artist who was active in the late Edo period. HIroshige gained popularity with his infamous works which depict post towns along the Tokaido route from Edo to Kyoto called “The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido” and also went on to create many landscape paintings from all over Japan which we can enjoy today. Hiroshige leaves behind many works that are expressed with rain and wind with humorous appearances of everyday people in a richly poetic manner than just depicting sceneries of famous places.
The beauty of the indigo color is highly praised around the world, and it is also called "Hiroshige Blue."
