Namiura Woodblock Poster
Inspired by the powerful waves of Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic The Great Wave off Kanagawa from the series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, this work reconstructs the subtle movements and fluctuations hidden within the original composition.
Focusing closely on a fragment of the ukiyo-e image, Master Printer Kenji Takenaka reimagines the wave through layered blue tones and the soft texture of handmade washi paper. From a distance, the composition takes on an almost geometric appearance, creating a contemporary expression rooted in traditional woodblock printing techniques.
Based on an original work first created in 2016, this renewed edition further expands the unique visual possibilities of woodblock printing.
