The Gion Shirakawa River is decorated by cherry blossoms and willows flowing through consecutive cobblestone in Kyoto's red-light district. The river flowing elegantly upstream brings coolness to the hot summer of Gion. The carp escaping pouring sunlight by hiding in the shades of willow is in bright color, however the Shirakawa River is depicted in pale warm white color contrasting the two. I made this piece remembering Shirakawa when it was once cloudy in my memory.
