Shijyo ohashi
Shijyo ohashi
Shijo Ohashi offers a panoramic view rich in Kyoto’s cultural landmarks. To the northeast stands a statue of Izumo no Okuni, the founder of kabuki theater. To the south is Minami-za, Kyoto’s iconic kabuki playhouse known for its Kao-mise performances each December. Looking straight ahead, one can see Yasaka Shrine and the gentle ridgeline of the Higashiyama mountains.
As a bridge that continues to connect the bustling Shijo-Kawara district with Gion, Shijo Ohashi remains a vital part of daily life, carrying people east and west across Kyoto’s flowing traditions.
