A quiet path in the old capital, lined with a grove of bamboo.Rendered in simple lines, the bamboo carries a cool, solid presence.Deep gradations create a sense of crisp, composed air, drawing the eye into the depth of the image.

The lines along both sides of the path make use of the paper’s natural white. They are created using a technique called karazuri (blind printing), in which pressure is applied to dampened washi without pigment, forming subtle embossing in the paper. This delicate relief—unique to woodblock printing—gives the work its distinctive sense of dimension.
